Yorktown Heights, NY, November 12, 2008, Yorktown Community Nursery School (YCNS), a parent cooperative school dedicated to nurturing families and educating children for over 60 years announces its first in a series of FREE community-based parenting workshops:

SUBJECT: "Conflict Resolution: A Guide to Child Discipline"
DATE: Thursday, December 4, 2008
TIME: 12:45 p.m. - 1:45 p.m.
PLACE: Yorktown Community Nursery School, 247 Veterans Road, Yorktown Heights, NY
REGISTRATION: 914-962-7868 or ycnsdirector@verizon.net (provide name, number of attendees, phone number and email address); children welcome!

Maribeth Fay, Director/Teacher of YCNS, childcare administrator and parenting education consultant, is conducting these seminar series. During the first seminar, parents will learn:

  • What is discipline: teaching children to respect themselves and others
  • Planning ahead to avoid problems: setting children up for success
  • Your manner affects children's behavior: how to be a good example for your child
  • Handling problems that are sure to occur: how to handle hitting, biting and fighting
  • Talking with children: What to say and how to say it

Maribeth Fay comments: "We developed these parenting workshops as part of YCNS' mission to support parents and provide insight into pre-school behavior and early childhood development. And, what better way to do that then to provide real-life tools to parents to help them support the social growth of their children."

Mrs. Fay welcomes all parents from the community and neighboring towns to attend. She promises that each parent will walk away with at least five skills. Registration is required.

YCNS has programs for 2, 3, and 4 year olds, with a 5-to-1 child-to-adult ratio, including one N.Y.S. certified teacher, one teaching assistant and one parent.
